About Mantswe

How It Began

A festival born
from conviction

Mantswe began in 2023 as the Mantswe Choral Music Festival, founded in Tlhabane, Rustenburg, with one school and a simple but firm belief: that developing choirs and artists in the North West deserved access to professional stages, live audiences, and the kind of performance experience that builds lasting confidence.

In early 2026, following three years of steady growth and an expanding vision, the organisation was formally restructured as Mantswe Music Collective NPC. The new structure reflects a broadened mandate, spanning choral, classical, opera, gospel, musical theatre, and traditional genres.

The name Mantswe means "voices" in Setswana. It holds the founding intention: to gather different voices, from different backgrounds and genres, into one harmonious purpose.

Mission

What we exist to do

To provide developing artists and choirs across South Africa with access to professional performance settings, cultural stewardship, and sustainable opportunities for artistic growth. We build platforms where talent is seen, heard, and developed.

Vision

Where we are going

A South Africa where geography is no barrier to artistic excellence. We envision Rustenburg and the North West as a recognised home for world-class performing arts, and Mantswe as the organisation that made that possible.

Our Work

What we do

01

Events and Festivals

Five annual events spanning school choirs, gospel, classical, opera, and choral music. Each event is designed to give artists a professional stage and audiences a memorable experience.

02

Artist Development

Through the Mantswe Performing Arts Academy, we provide structured development pathways for singers aged 14 to 35 across the North West province, working through focused projects led by experienced practitioners.

03

Cultural Stewardship

We celebrate South Africa's rich musical heritage, creating space for traditional, contemporary, and classical voices to coexist and grow. Through Roots and Scores, we commission and premiere new works by South African composers.

Where We Are

Rooted in Rustenburg

Mantswe Music Collective is based in Tlhabane, Rustenburg, in the North West province of South Africa. Our events are held across the greater Rustenburg area, and our artist development work reaches across the province. Rustenburg is not just where we operate. It is where we belong.
